Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

Opportunities to help nonprofit groups give back to the community for the holidays.

Your holiday shopping can benefit the .  Each time you use Good Search and Good Shop to search and shop online, the visited website makes a donation to Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

The West Springfield Police Citizens’ Advisory Committee each year provides holiday meals at the station for officers who must be away from their families on Christmas Day. To support Holiday Meals for Officers, mail a check (payable to Howard Lincoln, CAC Treasurer) to Citizens' Advisory Committee, , 6140 Rolling Road, Springfield, VA 22152. 

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has several collection locations throughout Burke and Springfield.  You can donate new unwrapped toys through Dec. 22.

  • In the collection bin in the front public entrance of (or at any Fairfax County Fire Department).
  • At Interstate Van Lines, 5801 Rolling Road in Springfield.
  • VRE will be holding its annual Toys for Tots collection on Wednesday, Dec. 7.  Leave an unwrapped, new toy on your seat when you detrain that morning, and conductors will collect them after the train reaches the storage yard. Conductors will also be accepting donation checks (payable to Toys for Tots) and gift cards.

The Assistance League of Northern Virginia needs volunteers to pack supplemental food packages for distribution to children in three Title 1 schools in Northern Virginia. Meet at the , 9350 Braddock Rd., Burke, 10 a.m. Dec. 15. Contact Linda at 703-591-2312 or .

The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area needs holiday cards and small personal care items that can be used as gifts to patients in hospitals and nursing homes. Robin Wiley, 703-370-0370.

Our Daily Bread needs volunteers to sponsor needy Fairfax County residents for December holiday meals and gifts for children. Donations to purchase gift cards for families are also welcome. Register online, by telephone (703-273-8829) or email info@odbfairfax.org.
