Holiday Weekend DWI Checkpoints
Officers to patrol on land and water in Fairfax County.
In an effort to deter impaired driving on land and on water, Fairfax County police officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints over the Labor Day weekend.
On Saturday, September 3, officers from the Marine Patrol unit will conduct a sobriety checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated boaters from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Boaters in Pohick Bay may be stopped and checked to assure that their abilities have not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.
On Sunday, September 4, officers will be teaming up with Prince William County Police and Virginia State Police troopers to hold a checkpoint in the Franconia Police District between 11 a.m. and 2 a.m.

This weekend marks Virginia’s 10th anniversary of Checkpoint Strikeforce, the statewide education and public awareness program to detect and deter impaired driving.
In 2010, there were 32,760 drivers arrested for impaired driving across the state. Safe and sober driving continues to be a priority for the Fairfax County Police Department.
