Ni River Middle School Coach Allegedly Assaults Student

Twelve-year-old kicked and knocked down by coach during practice, said law enforcement.

A 12-year-old student at Ni River Middle School in Spotsylvania County was allegedly assaulted by a volunteer coach during football practice on Oct. 16, according to Cpt. Mike Harvey of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

During football practice the volunteer coach kicked the player, knocking him to the ground, according to Harvey.

Harvey said in a release when the student was picked up by his father, the father confronted the coach and assaulted him.

A 21-year-old white male of Spotsylvania, a volunteer coach with the Ni River Middle School Football team, was charged with a felony cruelty and injuries to children (Virginia Code Section 40.1-103). He has not been arrested on these charges at this time, but has been terminated of his duties by Spotsylvania County Schools and banned from school property, according to Cpt. Harvey.

The father was charged with assault and battery (Virginia Code section 18.2-57). He has not been arrested on these charges at this time.

"This case had a swift resolution due to the cooperation between school administration and the Sheriff’s Office," said Cpt. Harvey.

The weay it should be...The volunteer receives jail time, all charges against the father dropped since he was defending his child.

I agree with Ralph the father should have charges dropped..I understand as well as the father knows it was wrong for him to retaliate but I would do the same for my little girl in a heart beat..you shouldn't punish a parent for protecting their loved ones

I would defend my children to my death. The coach was wrong and deserves the jail time. Hope the child and his dad are okay surely the dad did what any parent would do.

I had originally thought that this story was about my grandson as he had been hurt in practice about a week before . I agree that the coach should receive time for this-but knowing the law he will more than likely get probation.
