North Springfield Deck Fire Put Out in 10 Minutes

Firefighters quickly got the fire under control.

A deck fire at a house in North Springfield was quickly put out by firefighters this morning.

The fire captain at the scene said that the homeowner of 5616 Rathbone Place was downstairs in the basement when he smelled smoke. He came upstairs and found a fire on the back deck was spreading to the back of the house.

Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, with a "full first alarm" contingent of four engines, two ladder trucks, a rescue unit, a battallion chief, a deputy chief and an EMS unit. The fire captain said that the fire was put out within 10 minutes.

The homeowner declined to comment or allow photographs of the fire damage itselfs, which was in the back of the house.
