Police Investigating Overnight Homicide in Springfield

Body was found near Backlick Road and Highland Street.

Police are investigating an overnight homicide in the Springfield area, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Around 10:05 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the area of Backlick Road and Highland Street for the report of a man lying in the roadway, possibly struck by a vehicle. 

Officers located the man and determined he had an injury to the upper body, not consistent with a vehicle crash. The 24-year-old man was transported to the hospital where he was later died. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, who are located outside the country.

This investigation is ongoing. No further information is expected to be released Sunday, police said.
