Update: Police: 'Too Soon to Tell' If Two Recent Assaults Connected

A 15-year-old female Woodson High School student was assaulted on her way home from school Monday afternoon, according to Fairfax County Police.

The girl was on a "very popular, well-used" wooded path at about 4 p.m. just off of Pickett Road across from the high school when a man described as 5-feet, 8-inches tall allegedly grabbed her and assaulted her, police said.

The attacker in Monday's assault is described by police as either a white or Hispanic male, said police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

The description of the man who reportedly along Commonwealth Boulevard near Richardson Drive is described as white and about 5-feet, 7-inches tall, according to police.

"It's too soon to tell" if the two assaults are by the same person, Caldwell told Patch.

Caldwell said that police will step up patrols in the area of Monday's assault.

"Parents should talk to their kids—if they see something, say something," she said. If anyone sees suspicious behavior, contact police immediately and "don't wait until later that night." She also urged students to carry a cell phone and walk with a group or with friends.
