Update with Photos: Tree Falls on Burke House, Traps Residents

Fire officials believe strong winds felled tree.

UPDATE Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

Neighbors gathered to watch the clean-up, as crews began removing the tree which demolished a home in the West Kings Park subdivision early Sunday morning.

Two residents of the home were trapped inside.  It took rescue personnel almost two hours to free them.  The woman was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbors did not know yet of any community assistance collections being taken for the family.

A 70-foot tree fell onto a home in Kings Park West about 1 a.m. Sunday, trapping two residents and moving the house slightly off its foundation.

Fairfax Fire Department Captain Will Bailey told 9NEWS, "the tree tore through the roof of the bedroom pinning the woman to the floor and also trapping an adult male."

It took rescue personnel worked almost two hours to free the couple.  The woman was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The man was not hurt.

The house, located in the 5000 block of Lavery Court, has been condemned.
