Weekend Planner: Motorcycles, Egg Hunts, and Classical Music

 GMU Dance Company 2012 Gala Concert

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax
  • When: Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 at 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Featuring D-Man in the Water, Part I by Bill T. Jones, Swing Shift by David Parsons, and Bedtime by Mark Morris.
  • Price:  Tickets range from $10 - $20

  • Where: , Springfield
  • When: Saturday, March 31 from 1 - 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Children age 6 to 12 will learn about bicycle safety, and then participate in a challenging obstacle course that is designed to reinforce safe riding. Additionally the police department will have several police vehicles and equipment on display along with a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog. All children who wish to participate are required to bring their own bicycle and a bicycle helmet that has been approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

 Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt

  • Where: Begins at Moe’s Peyton Place and ends at Kilroys, Springfield
  • When: Saturday, March 31 Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.  Hunt will last from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. 
  • Why Go: Presented by 13 Rebels Motorcycle Club to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Cash prizes and raffle items will be awarded.
  • Price: $20 registration fee

 Shoji Lamp Workshop

  • Where: Green Spring Gardens, Annandale
  • When: Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m.
  • Why Go: Make a Japanese Shoji lamp using provided materials such as wood, rice paper, wiring, and bulbs.  Light refreshments and tea will be served.
  • Price:  $36 - $38 per person; registration required

 Dinner for the Washingtons Walking Tour

  • Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Alexandria
  • When: Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. through April 22
  • Why Go: This one hour walking tour will focus on the foods that were prepared at Mount Vernon in George Washington’s time.  The tour includes the basement cellar, as well as the greenhouse where guests will sample Martha Washington’s cherry punch.
  • Price:  $5 in addition to regular admission

 Alexandria Symphony Orchestra: A Magical Spell

  • Where: NOVA Alexandria, Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall
  • When: Saturday, March 31 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Violinist Midori returns to the ASO to perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.  Additional selections include Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Kluge’s MEIBUKI – Regeneration with the Arlington Children’s Chorus.
  • Price:  Tickets range from $5 - $75

 Animal Rescue: A Musical Adventure

  • Where: Green Spring Gardens, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m.
  • Why Go: Go on a musical adventure with the Virginia Virtuosi Rescue Squad.   Experience the music of Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Dragonetti, and others.  For ages 5 and up.
  • Price:  $2 - $4 per person; registration required.

 Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic

  •  Where: Bishop Ireton High School, Alexandria
  • When: Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Selections include Gustav Holst’s Concerto for 2 Violins, Claude Debussy’s Nocturnes, Frederick Delius’ Songs of Sunset, and more.  Arrive at 2:15 for a pre-concert lecture with Dr. Stephen Bertino.
  • Price:  Admission is $20; 18 and under are FREE

Friends and Family Chamber Orchestra with the Mason Symphony Orchestra

  • Where: , Springfield
  • When: Sunday, April 1 at 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Featuring selections by Tchaikovsky, Bach, Bizet, Ravel, and more.
  • Price:  Admission is FREE

The Acting Company: Julius Caesar

  • Where: , Fairfax
  • When: Sunday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Don’t miss The Acting Company’s presentation of this classic Shakespearean tragedy.
  • Price:  Tickets range from $20 - $40

  • Alexandria Easter Eggstravaganza at Top Golf, Alexandria.  Saturday, March 31 from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  FREE
  • Dinosaur Egg Hunt at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale.  Saturday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m.  For ages 3-8.  $6 - $8 per person – registration required.
  • 9th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Eclectic Nature, Alexandria.  Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m.  FREE
  • Eggstravaganza and Easter Egg Roll at Fairfax County Government Center, Fairfax.  Saturday, March 31 from 1 – 3 p.m.  For ages 11 and under.  FREE

  • Dazzled by Dragonflies at Huntley Meadows Park, Alexandria.  Saturday, March 31 at 3 p.m.  For adults.  $6 - $8 per person – registration required.
