West Springfield Home Struck by Lightning

Severe thunderstorms sweep across Fairfax County Thursday night.

Lightning struck a West Springfield home Thursday night catching its attic on fire, a spokesman from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue has confirmed.

As thunderstorms rolled through Fairfax County, lightning struck the house at about 9 p.m. Thursday on Adrienne Glen Avenue in West Springfield, leaving behind an attic fire and a damaged chimney, according to the spokesman.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue quickly responded and put out the fire. No one was injured and there was no estimate on damage yet, he said.

The home is located in a neighborhood near Fairfax County Parkway and Sydenstricker Road in Fairfax County.

The call came in at 9:05 p.m. The spokesman said he was uncertain whether the residents would be displaced by the damage to the home.
