Burke Voter's Guide

Who's on the ballot and where to vote Tuesday, August 23.

Tuesday's primaries (Aug. 23) give voters the opportunity to nominate party candidates for the Virginia State Senate and House of Delegates, and make choices in the races for Board of Supervisors and Sheriff. Here’s your complete guide to who’s running to represent Burke.

Where and When to Vote

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. People in line before 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Due to statewide redistricting, some voters may be going to a different polling location than in past years.

Absentee Voting

Absentee voting started in July. The last day to vote absentee in person is Saturday, Aug. 20.  Absentee ballots must be received by the elections office by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23. Complete information on absentee voting is available on the Fairfax County government website.

State Senate – District 37

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will face Democrat in November.

State Senate – District 39

Republicans Scott Martin and Miller Baker are challenging Democratic incumbent George Barker. Baker and Martin will face off in the Aug. 23 primary.

Fairfax County Sheriff

Two Republicans, “Wes” Kammerer and William Cooper, are facing off in the Aug. 23 primary. The winner will face current Sheriff Stan Barry in November.

Board of Supervisors – Braddock District

Two democrats, Janet Olescek and Christopher Wade, are facing off in a primary in the Braddock District. The winner of Tuesday's primary will challenge Republican incumbent John Cook for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Green Party candidate Carey Campbell is also running.
