Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn: Announcing the Arts Caucus

Members needed for a committee to work with and support the local arts community.

By Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn (D-41)

On January 27, Arts Advocacy groups from across the Commonwealth came to Richmond in order to speak with their legislators regarding the need to provide financial support to help fund the arts in Virginia.

That same day, Delegate Barbara Comstock (R-34) and I were privileged to hold the inaugural meeting of the Arts Caucus of the House of Delegates. We have founded this group with the mission of promoting and supporting the arts community by highlighting the many programs and performances that enrich us all, and encourage greater donor support for their efforts from local businesses and organizations.

In addition to providing entertainment and inspiration to the community at large, the arts also create jobs, attract a stronger, more skilled and creative workforce, generate needed tax revenues, and add significantly to the overall cultural and economic vitality of our region. It is our hope that this caucus will encourage more extensive partnerships between the arts and individual citizens, foundations and members of our business community, with resulting social and economic benefits for all Virginians.

On behalf of the caucus, I will soon be forming a local committee to work with and support the local arts community. I invite your participation and encourage you to join us in this worthwhile effort, whether you are a resident of the 41st District or simply wish to share your passion for the arts. If you would like to be a part of this, please contact me directly at any time, by e-mail (Eileen@EileenFillerCorn.com) or by phone, at 571-216-3453.
