The county’s stream restoration project at Government Center in Fairfax was deemed the best in the competition’s Environmental Protection and Energy category. Material dredged from other ponds was used to restore the stream and pond on the government center property, improving habitat and water quality.

Ultimately, the project will help the quality of the water in the Chesapeake Bay by reducing the amount of phosphorous, nitrogen and sediment flowing into Difficult Run.
