Healthy Strides Community Race Returning to Burke Lake Park

The second annual community race will be Saturday, April 27.

The Fairfax County Park Authority and runners from Burke and the Northern Virginia area gearing up for the second annual Healthy Strides Community 5K and 10K races in Burke Lake Park on Saturday, April 27.

According to information on the Park Authority's Healthy Strides website, the 10K course will run through Burke Lake Park on paved and unpaved trails around lake and through park and the 5K course will run through Burke Lake Park on paved road. The 5K course is stroller and wheelchair accessible.

The 10K begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8:15 a.m. Participants are not required to run to join the race and are encouraged to walk, if preferred, and bring friends and family along.

To register, interested participants can sign up at www.active.com by seaching keywords "Healthy Strides" or register through the race's Facebook page. The cost for the 5K or the 10K is $30 and all participants receive a free T-shirt.

Registration ends on April 24 at 5:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

There will be an awards ceremony after the race at 9:30 a.m. Awards are given out to runners for: first place overall (male and female), first place in age groups for men and women who are 19-years-old and under, 20‐29-years-old, 30‐39-years-old, and 40‐49-years-old.

Prior to the race, there will be a free Healthy Strides Expo on Friday, April 26 at South Run RECenter at 8 p.m. The Expo will feature giveaways, informational booths, food and activities.
