Burke Resident Leads Marine Corps New Year's Day Tradition

Led by Burke resident Col. Colburn, the Marine Band performed the annual New Year's Day serenade at the home of the Commandant.

Every year since 1865, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band has serenaded the Commandant of the Marine Corps on New Year's Day.

The tradition continued in 2012, as members of the band played four tunes for General James F. Amos and his wife.

Col. Michael J. Colburn, the 27th Director of “The President’s Own,” and General Amos then toasted with the traditional hot buttered rum.  Col. Colburn is a resident of Burke.
