The holiday credit card breach that impacted Target customers across the country between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 has led the Virginia Department of Social Services to cancel nearly 4,000 EPPICards.

The Target security breach was a massive hack of card readers at retail locations across the country, with credit card information compromised for up to 40 million customers.

The impacted VDSS cards were used at Target locations to access child support payments or VDSS benefits. When identified by card vendor Xerox on Jan. 1, a total of 3,986 cards were blocked and new cards were mailed out Friday, according to a release by VDSS.

Xerox has alerted impacted cardholders, according to the VDSS, and stated that customers will not be responsible for any fraud that occurs due to the theft of their information.
