A Brass Quintet performed as part of the Marine Band's annual Music in the Schools (MITS) educational outreach in the metropolitan D.C. area. "Music is a valuable part of a well-rounded education and teaches children many creative skills not available in other curricula," the concert program said.

Keene Mill Band Director Susan Deck said Principal Renee Miller invited the Marine Band to the school.  "Mrs. Miller is all about giving our students the opportunity to become well-rounded young citizens," she said.

"Monday’s assembly not only encouraged our 117 budding band musicians to practice and improve their music skills, but also created enthusiasm and excitement in all of our students," said Deck.  They loved the performance.  It provided history, patriotism, and entertainment.  Who could ask for more than that?"
