U.S. Troops Receive Christmas Stockings from Burke Church

St. Stephen's Sent 1,128 Christmas Stockings to Troops in Afghanistan and Yemen.

galvanized the local community to provide 1,228 Christmas stockings to deployed forces in 28 commands in Afghanistan and at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen.

Annandale residents Jim and Beverly Waldenfeld began coordinating the Military Package Project last February, obtaining donations from community residents and local businesses.

"One of our recipients, Jose, was kind enough to send the enclosed picture of his platoon when they received their stockings," said Beverly.  "They are deployed to Afghanistan, and very grateful for any support they receive."

The stockings included candy, toiletries, socks and personal notes. "A signed greeting lets the recipient know that someone cared about their well-being and comfort," said Beverly.
