VRE Operations Board Meets to Discuss Fares

Board meeting scheduled for Friday, April 20.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board meets Friday, and their agenda includes a vote on whether to approve a proposed .  If adopted, the increase would take effect the first week of July 2012, to coincide with the start of FY2013.

Normal and discounted (advance-purchase) fares proposed for the 2013 fiscal year are outlined in the document attached to this article.  The new per-trip increase for both monthly and single-trip Burke riders would be, for example:

  •  to Union Station: Monthly tickets would see a  $.15 increase per trip over FY2012 fares. Single trip tickets would see a $.25 increase per trip over FY2012 fares.

The commuter rail service operates 29 trains from 18 stations serving the Northern Virginia suburbs to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, D.C., along the I-66 and I-95 corridors. Services began in 1992.
