Burke-Area Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

The Robinson Secondary School and West Springfield High School students will compete for around 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards.

A handful of students from Robinson Secondary School and West Springfield High School have been selected as semifinalists for the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) awards.

The students are:

Robinson Secondary School

  • Megan Pearson

West Springfield High School
  • Thomas Garcia, Kelly Giddens, and John Lakwijk

More than 250 Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students were listed as semifinalists for the awards. All semifinalists are eligible to compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards. The awards, which are worth $35 million, will be awarded in spring 2014.

A total of 132 students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) were also named semifinalists.
