Play Ball! Lake Braddock Athletes Sign NCAA Letters of Intent

Stand-out athletes will play Division 1 baseball for Longwood Lancers and George Mason Patriots.

Alex Lewis and Garrett Driscoll, two members of the 2012 Virginia State Championship Lake Braddock Bruins, saw their hard work pay off recently when they signed their NCAA National Letters of Intent to play Division I baseball.

Alex will head to the Big South (Farmville, Va.) as part of the Longwood Lancers, while Garrett will stay close to home and play for the George Mason Patriots.

Not only have the two been teammates in high school, but over the years, they have played travel baseball together. They were both an intricate part of the Bruins success this past season— winning the very first Virginia State Championship for Lake Braddock Bruins Baseball. This is a culmination of years of hard work by both boys.

Alex played third baseman for the Bruins and is likely to have an opportunity to start as a freshman and make an immediate impact. He was 2012 1st Team All-Patriot District and LBSS 2012 Defensive MVP. In addition, Alex was a member of Championship 2012 VA Commonwealth North Team.

"There were other schools who had interest but in the end I chose Longwood because it was a good fit for me," he said. "It is a rapidly growing baseball program and I have a good chance to start as a freshman. I like the coaching staff and how they approach the game and I really liked the field and campus, said Lewis.”

Garrett is the catcher for the Bruins. He was 2nd Team All-Patriot District and received the 2012 Mike Muresco Award for Commitment from LBSS. Last month Garrett completed his travel season with an invite to the MLB sponsored "South Atlantic Border Battle" in Burlington, N.C., where he played for the Virginia team coached by the MLB Braves.

"It has been my goal to play college baseball since I played Little League," he said. "I have been fortunate to get to know Coach Brown and the rest of the coaching staff over the years. I can't think of a better baseball program to play for. I have had a chance to spend some time on campus because my sister, Mckena, is there too. It will be great to spend my first two years there with her.  George Mason is an outstanding school and I look forward to getting an excellent education as well as contributing to the Patriots on the field," he said.
