Mason Jazz Ensemble Presents 'A Night at the Palladium'

An evening of Afro-Cuban Big Band Music and dance under the direction of Latin Grammy Award-winning percussionist Joe McCarthy.

The Mason Jazz Ensemble presents a concert of Afro-Cuban Big Band music and dance Wednesday, April 18, at 8 p.m. in the .

The ensemble will perform under the direction of Latin Grammy Award-winning percussionist Joe McCarthy, an adjunct professor of Drumset and Afro-Cuban Percussion Studies in Mason’s School of Music.

A Night at the Palladium will feature a collection of Bebop, Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz works, including Dizzy Gillespie’s “Con Alma,” “Soul Sauce” and “A Night in Tunisia”; Cal Tjader’s “Viva Cepeda”; and Mongo Santamaria’s “Afro Blue.”

The D.C. based dance troupe D.C. Casineros, led by founder and Mason alumna Amanda Gill, will perform during several pieces in the program.

Greg Robinson, who teaches ethnomusicology in Mason’s School of Music, will serve as narrator and host.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors.  There are a limited number of Mason student tickets available.
