Newsweek Names Robinson One of Top 'College-Prep' High Schools in Country

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

Newsweek has ranked Robinson Secondary School as the  No. 342 high school out of the top 2,000 high schools in the country for turning out college-ready graduates.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology ranked the highest of all Virginia schools, coming in at the No. 8 best high school in the country. Newsweek bumped TJ up from 2012, when it was ranked No. 10. The average SAT score for "TJ," as listed by Newsweek, was 2153, the highest of the top 10 schools ranked.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Robinson's ranking, and every other ranked high school, by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above.

The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates.

In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweek’s final rankings.
