Public Hearing for Lake Braddock Cell Tower Set for Thursday

The 130-foot tall monopole would be built near the baseball or football fields on the grounds of Lake Braddock Secondary School.

Burke residents will have the chance to voice their opinions about AT&T's proposal to build a 130-foot tall cell phone tower on the grounds of Lake Braddock Secondary School (LBSS) at a public hearing in front of the Fairfax County Planning Commission on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The Planning Commission meeting will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the board auditorium of the Fairfax County Government Center, located at 12000 Government Center Pkwy in Fairfax.

The proposal for the monopole was first introduced to residents back in May during a community meeting at Kings Park Library led by Milestone Communications, who is representing AT&T.

Originally, AT&T proposed building the pole near the parking lot by the LBSS baseball field located at 9200 Burke Lake Road. After reviewing feedback received during the community meeting and at a balloon fly event in June, Milestone announced an alternative location near the LBSS football field.

With the new location, which is now the official location on file with Fairfax County, the equipment for the pole would be placed on an existing light pole that would be replaced with a thicker pole to properly support the weight of the monopole equipment.

Residents interested in speaking at the public hearing can call the Planning Commission Office at 703-324-2865 or register to speak online through the Planning Commission's website. Residents have until 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 to register to speak.
