Robinson Unveils New Synthetic Turf Field

and the celebrated the installation of synthetic turf fields at Coffey Stadium during halftime of the Rams inaugural 2012 home football game Friday night against the TC Williams Titans.

The Rams won the game 40-21, according to the Washington Post.

A brief ceremony was held on the stadium field at halftime. Attendees at the ceremony included Virginia state Senators and , Delegate , Braddock District Supervisor , Fairfax Athletic Council Member , Fairfax County Parks Official , as well as school personnel.  

In addition, members from the  (BRYC) and (NVSL), both of whom are helping to fund the project as field community use organizations.

"We are so pleased to have this significant improvement to our facilities, which will not only be a tremendous addition to our student athletes, but also to our entire student body and the whole Robinson Community," said John Ferrell, director of student activities at the school.

"These improvements add significantly to the quality of life in our community," said Braddock District Supervisor Cook, who has worked to obtain funding for this and other turf projects in the Braddock Distict.

“BRYC is proud to be able to contribute to the community, and to continue our long-time partnerships with Robinson, Northern Virginia Soccer and Fairfax County," said BRYC President Dane Merkel.  "This is an exciting time for all youth sports in the area, as quality fields foster good player development and provide the safest environments possible.”

"These fields are the result of a tremendous amount of work by FCPS, NCS, Robinson Athletics and the Athletics Boosters Club, as well as NNVSL and BRYC," said John Davis of the BRYC.  "We are especially thankful for Supervisor Cook's efforts in helping us clear the final hurdles.  In the end, it was the longstanding trust among all the partners and the neighboring communities that allowed this project to happen."

Combined with improvements to the school's outdoor track which were made in 2011, over $2 million of improvements have now been made at Robinson as part of the booster club's $30 million Capital Improvement Campaign.
