530 West Springfield Spartans Celebrate Graduation

The Class of 2011 graduated at the Patriot Center on Tuesday.

530 seniors graduated from West Springfield yesterday at the Patriot Center.

The Madrigals started off the graduation by singing The Beatles' "In My Life." Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity, a vocally proud alumnus of West Springfield, gave the keynote address.

"It is you that makes West Springfield, not a building," Herrity said to the crowd gathered at the commencement ceremony.

Principal Paul Wardinski also spoke to the students, emphasizing a number of statistics, including the class's average 3.21 grade point average and that nearly 100 percent of students plan to attend college post-graduation.

Wardinski closed out his speech with a quote from Harry Potter, saying, "It is our choices Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
