500 Do the Drumstick Dash at Burke Lake Park for Charity

Event raised over $10,000 to help Fairfax County families with financial troubles in danger of losing their homes.

The second annual Drumstick Dash 8k brought out approximately 500 runners, including over 300 in the full 8k and plenty of others in the mile-long Family Fun Run.

The event, held at Burke Lake Park the Saturday after Thanksgiving, raised over $10,000 for the Housing and Community Services of Northern Virginia, Inc., an organization formed to help families in Fairfax County that are homeless, in danger of becoming homeless, or in dire financial straits.

"Housing and Community Services helps families in Fairfax County who are in crisis...," said Anna Smith, the immediate past chair of Housing and Community Services of Northern Virginia. "We help families kinda get back on their feet. This is the second year we're doing [the Drumstick Dash]. This is our annual fundraiser; we learned a lot from last year and the race went great this year as well as last year."
