Lake Braddock Players Honored by Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame

Robinson Running Back Jared Velasquez was also honored as the Concorde District Player of the Year

The Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame recognized standout Lake Braddock and Robinson football players this Sunday at a banquet.

Lake Braddock quarterback Michael Nebrich was honored at the event as the Patriot District Player of the Year. As the Bruins' Quarterback, Nebrich led the team to its second consecutive Northern Region and Patriot District titles. Individually, he broke several Virginia High School League records and was named Northern Region Player of the Year and All Met Player of the Year. Nebrich graduated early in December and now attends University of Connecticut, where he received a football scholarship and will play under the direction of new head coach Paul Pasqualoni.

The Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame also awarded four senior athletes a $1,500 scholarship.  One of the recipients of the scholarship was Lake Braddock's middle linebacker, Andrew Weidinger. Weidinger led one of the region's strongest defenses, allowing just 10.7 per game in the regular season. Showing off the unit's versatility, the Bruins surrendered just 10 points apiece to Jared Velasquez and the run-first Robinson Rams, and Braden Anderson, Troy Scharfen and the aerial attack of the Langley Saxons. Weidinger was a microcosm of that versatility, as he could come up and stop the run, and also drop back in coverage to defend the deep middle of the field.
