West Springfield Girls Basketball Beat Madison to Win Bulldog Bash Tournament

The Spartans beat the Warhawks 64-57 in overtime Monday.

The West Springfield High School girls basketball team came from behind to beat Madison High School 64-57 in the Bulldog Bash Holiday Tournament final on Monday.

The Spartans were trailing the Warhawks at the midway point of the third quarter, according to the Washington Post, but pulled ahead with help from guard Jasmine Taylor. Taylor, a sophomore, posted a career-high 22 points and received the Erin Peterson MVP Award at the end of the tournament.

“It feels great to win this award and get a career high. It’s an honor,” Taylor told the Post. “I love this team.”

Guard and fellow sophomore Shelby Haynes scored 14 points.

The Spartans will face Lee High School on Jan. 7 at at 6540 Franconia Rd. in Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. The boys basketball team will play Lee at home at 7:30 p.m. at 6100 Rolling Rd. in Springfield.
