Magic at Burke Centre Library

Magician Mike Klee performed as part of the library's summer reading program.

Magician Mike Klee presented his Dream Big and Read magic show at as part of Fairfax County Public Library's 2012 Summer Reading Program.

Each of Klee's tricks connected to a children’s' book, including:

  • Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
  • Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
  • Flat Stanely by Jeff Brown
  • Dream Big, Little Pig! by Kristi Yamaguchi

Preschoolers through students entering grade 12 may participate in the Dream Big and Read summer reading program, registering online or at one of the library's 22 branches.

  • Preschoolers through sixth graders read (or have read to them) 15 books.
  • Students entering grades 7 - 12 read eight books.

Those who complete a reading log and return it to a library branch by Sept. 1 earn a coupon book with free and discounted items.  Finishers are also entered into a drawing for the chance to win special prizes, including Sony E-Book Readers, Washington Nationals tickets, gift cards and books.

In addition, each county library branch has scheduled special programs throughout the summer.  A complete list of events is on the library's website.
