Supervisor Cook Calls Community Meeting in Response to Recent Assaults
Supervisor Cook will host a Community Awareness Meeting on Monday, April 2 at Robinson Secondary School in the Gold Cafeteria, 5035 Sideburn Road at 7:30 p.m. to address community concerns following two reported sexual assaults that occurred in the Braddock District. Captain Hill from the West Springfield Police Station will be in attendance to answer questions from the community.
Police are investigating a report of a 16-year-old girl who was reportedly grabbed in the woods around 4 p.m. Monday, March 19. The girl had just entered a path at the end of Pickett Road while walking home from Woodson High School. She reported that a man approached her from behind, grabbed her neck, and assaulted her. She struggled and was knocked to the ground. After a brief altercation, the offender fled the scene. The girl screamed and ran to a nearby home for help. Police arrived within minutes. The suspect is described as between 18-27 years old, around 5 feet 8 inches tall and around 170 pounds. He had short black hair and wore a white T-shirt and shorts.

On Wednesday, March 14, around 10 p.m., a 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a wooded area in the 9700 block of Commonwealth Boulevard. The man threatened the victim with a knife or edged weapon and sexually assaulted her. The suspect was startled by a noise and fled the scene. The victim was then able to summon help. The suspect was described as white, about 5 feet 7 inches and wearing a sweatshirt. His face was partially concealed.
