May is National Home Improvement Month

May is National Home Improvement Month, a good time to chat about this interesting and important topic.

We’re excited to share that May is National Home Improvement Month (incidentally, it is also National Burger Month, but that’s another post altogether...). And, even though May is coming to a close, there's still time to chat about Home Improvement.

As a residential remodeler, we spend a lot of time talking about this subject with our clients, prospects and vendors. For many clients, and even those in the industry, home improvement means many things.

For some homeowners, home improvement may encompass a whole-house remodel and for others, it might involve having their rooms professionally painted and buying new furniture. All of these efforts by contractors and homeowners alike are geared to bring improvement and greater enjoyment to the residents in a home.

What are a few of the ways homeowners in the U.S. are sprucing up, improving and truly enhancing their homes at this time?

  • According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, “more homeowners are fixing up their bathrooms – not because they want to increase the investment value of their properties, but because more people are staying in their homes for longer periods of time.”
  • US News reports that homeowners are investing in “smarter” kitchens while they move towards more customization. They note, “Some are putting more money in pantries and utility rooms that keep the ‘guts’ of the operation undercover. They're giving up dedicated food-prep square footage in favor of larger eating and family room areas. They're opting for open shelving and islands that do a lot of the heavy lifting, with loads of storage. Kitchens are and will continue to look less like a work area and more like an extension of the living area.”

Large or small, home improvement should do just its name implies: It should improve your home and your lifestyle in ways that you and your family desire. It may even offer new enjoyment in ways that you don’t foresee and create space that you want to spend time in.
