Easy Goin' Owen, a Beautiful Sheltie

Hi! My name is Owen.

I feel so fortunate to be here and to have the opportunity to start a new life. I’m a beautiful Sheltie with a gorgeous coat and a sweet, delicate smile that matches my personality.

Mutts Matter thinks I’m around four or five years old. I currently weigh about 25 pounds, but I could still stand to put on a few pounds. I was rescued from a neglectful home where I was ignored and mistreated, but my life has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. I’m grateful to be safe, well cared for and living in a loving foster home.

I was in rough shape when I came into rescue. My mouth was so infected I couldn’t chew my kibble, and I would bury my food or try to crush it with my paw so I could eat it.

I was underweight, had skin sores and my coat was severely matted from neglect. I was in a lot of pain, and had shut down to the outside world. But all that’s in the past, and today I’m in fantastic health. I look and feel great!

Mutts Matter’s veterinarian performed dental work on me, treated my infections, gave me a bath and brushed out my coat, and now I look like the beautiful show dog that I always was. My amazing transformation shows how resilient I am, and that my spirit won’t be broken. 

I’m currently living with a really cool foster mom named Alana and her two pups, and they have all helped rehabilitate me. My foster mom saw Mutts Matter’s article on in the Leesburg Patch, and signed on to help. Once I got to her house, she’s taken great care of me, and says that I have really come out of my shell in a very short time. 

Mutts Matter spoke with my foster mom to help tell my story:

“When Owen first came to stay with me he was shy, weak, had very little appetite and would only take food when I spoon-fed him. Now he’s started to play around with my two dogs, will eat on his own when he’s hungry, and has become a big fan of the dog park and going on his daily walks.

"Owen is a very sweet, smart and calm dog. He’s good with everyone he meets, and people really respond to him. If I didn’t have two other dogs, I would adopt him in a minute.  As Owen has settled into my home, he has become more affectionate each day. He’ll hop up on the couch to curl up next to me and gently nudge me with his nose to entice a rub. He loves to snuggle up with his family pack in the bed at night!"

And Suzanne Says:

Owen is the type of pup who will fit in well with almost any family, and he gets along well with other dogs. He’s gentle, and is not a jumper or overly excitable, so he’d be great with kids. He’s a little reserved at first, but has a natural sweetness that draws people in, and he would make a great companion dog for a single owner, a couple or a big family.

He’s a special soul who has survived some tough times and really deserves a nurturing family. Owen needs an owner who will be proactive with his dental care, and keep up with regular brushing and cleanings, as well as daily walks to keep him healthy. He also has a long, beautiful coat that needs consistent brushing and grooming.
