Weekend: Springfield Days PetFest Set for Saturday

At 10 a.m., local TV personality and friend of the shelter Annie Yu of Fox 5 DC will kick off "Paws on Parade."

Love animals? Then you'll want to head to South Run Park on Saturday, where the Fairfax County Animal Shelter take part in the Springfield Days PetFest, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The festival will offer all-day entertainment for pets and families; be sure to check out the vendors, an agility course and all-day demonstrations.

At 10 a.m., local TV personality and friend of the shelter Annie Yu of Fox 5 DC will kick off “Paws on Parade,” a pet parade to showcase some of Fairfax County’s cutest pups. Shelter dogs will join in the fun, wearing their Adopt Me! vests and marching alongside volunteers. Kids and pets are invited to participate.

Local officials Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova, Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity and Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay will all be there to cheer on parade-goers and to share in this celebration of the start of summer.

At noon, Yu and shelter staff will MC the adopted pet reunion. People who have adopted from the shelter or rescued a pet from another group are invited to come together to celebrate the countless local animals whose lives have been saved through adoption and rescue.

Reunion participants will have an opportunity to tell their story and to introduce their adopted or rescued pet. Those with adopted dogs are encouraged to bring them to the reunion while those with cats or small animals are asked to bring a photograph which will be placed on a large banner displaying the rescued and adopted pets of Fairfax County.

The Springfield Days PetFest will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Run Park located at 7550 Reservation Drive in Springfield. For more information, visit http://www.springfielddays.com/home/petfest/.
