Friday, May 2: Traveling Tunes

Cabaret Series – Around the World in 80 Minutes: Grab your passport and pack your bags for a virtual trip around the world in true musical style!  A tuneful crew of vocalists will whisk you to destinations around the globe, exploring the songs and characters inspired by people and places from the Far East to the Midwest and from the South Pacific to the North Atlantic. Saturday, May 3: A-Tiskit, A-Tasket

May Day Baskets: Fill a May basket with flowers, learn to identify wildflowers and make art with flowers. From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Hidden Oaks Nature Center. $6/child (ages 4 to 8). Register online. For information call 703-941-1065.

Flower Mart at the National Cathedral in DC, at 3101 Wisconsin Ave., is celebrating its 75th year; activities for children and all ages. Read all about it here.

Angelika Film Center features The Goonies, part of its Flashback Family Films series; showing at 10 a.m. Saturday at the theater, 2911 District Avenue, at Lee Highway and Gallows Road in the Mosaic District in Merrifield. The film is rated PG.

Embassy Tours: In DC, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., more than 50 embassies representing six continents open their doors to DC visitors and residents. Participants can travel the world as they experience the food, art, dance, fashion, and music of different countries. Hollin Hills House & Garden Tour: Hollin Hills, the award-winning mid-century modern neighborhood in Alexandria, will host its bi-annual House & Garden Tour Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Get all the scoop here.

Sketches in Nature: Join a park naturalist in an outdoor classroom to learn tips and techniques for adding sketches to your observations. From 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Huntley Meadows Park. Ages 9-13. $6/person. Register online. For information call 703-768-2525.

Laundry Day: See 18th-century laundry demonstrations including boiling laundry over the fire in the outbuilding, scrubbing with homemade lye soap, ironing and other chores done by Madam Juba 200 years ago. Sunday, May 4: The Great Outdoors
