WHEREAS, companies and organizations such as NetApp, Domino’s Pizza, ESPN 980, St.Read More Baldrick’s Foundation and Redskins Radio, as well as individuals, were so touched by his indomitable spirit that they raised funds and made it possible for Jordan to attend the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans with his father, where he reveled in his beloved Baltimore Ravens’ win of the Lombardi Trophy; and WHEREAS, though he is diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, it is only mentioned at this point because a brain tumor should neither be the first nor the last thing anyone knows, thinks of or remembers about his remarkable resolve and the positivity which have been, in the face of his life-threatening diagnosis, Jordan’s lasting gift to the Spartan community and beyond; and WHEREAS, the number 58 has become a symbol that has transcended sports, schools and communities, bringing people across the county, country and faith communities to put Jordan in the forefront of their thoughts, prayers and actions since - because of Jordan - in the words of a fellow West Springfield High School student, “People are different now. (He has) made them different … (his) perseverance and heart and love for this community have completely altered everyone … (He has) changed this corner of the world in ways…never believed possible.”; and

WHEREAS, the contributions he has made to the Spartan community inspired the entire team toRead More dedicate, overwhelmingly, the 2012 football season to Jordan and, since the number 58 will always remain a part of the history of West Springfield High School, his Spartan football jersey was honored, framed and presented to him with his diploma; and WHEREAS, just this week, the Spartan community has been moved to continue raising money to help support Jordan and his family while he receives hospice support at home; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Fairfax County School Board acknowledges his meeting and, through indelible character and perseverance, remarkably, teaching the West Springfield High School and the Spartan community, Fairfax County Public Schools and many others the core of our Student Achievement Goals - Academics, Life Skills and Responsibility to Community - and the exceptional embodiment of inspiration and spirit demonstrated in so doing by Jordan Trufino.
