FCPD confirms they are investigating a 'sexting' ring in Fairfax County. Patch archive photo

Wow, only in Fairfax County would you actually have valuable police time used to investigate teenRead More age play as criminal behavior with the possibility of ruining the lives of some young people with criminal convictions. I'm retired from teaching but still occasionally substitute teach. Cell phones have so permeated the daily culture of school life that I doubt they'll ever get that genie back in the bottle. Some of my sub jobs are in other jurisdictions outside of NOVA. One thing is certain, it is impossible to keep youth from making use of their cell phones during class time. There is a wide range of content the students have access to and being teenagers they are apt to look at what is there because they are curious. I've come to realize that even as a sub teacher, my picture will get taken without my knowledge and shared with other students in the building to let them know they will have a sub later on and who it will be. Regular teachers, school administrators and security personnel are recorded, posted and mocked by many students. The cell phones are used to record student fights in and out of school and posted to You Tube. Provocative and lewd poses are recorded in the hallways and classrooms and shared and as this article says pictures of nudity etc. to the point that one wonders how it could ever be controlled. I don't believe that this kind of behavior is isolated to any one subset of youth but is universal across the spectrum of social, cultural and economic classes. One thing is certain, police investigations and criminal prosecution will be about as effective as radar and speed cameras keeping beltway traffic at 55 mph. Some as yet unknown alternative to policing and prosecution needs to employed. The demand from parents that their children have access to their cell phones in school is lost on this adult that went to school with no such technology and did just fine. Schools still have landlines and today all classrooms have a telephone but ask parents to stop being enablers by demanding that their children have cell phones in school and watch the uproar. Bizarre world!

So now we're going to charge children with child pornography laws...What won't they think of next?
alan parker April 20, 2014 at 09:20 am
Wildermann, I agree with all but your first sentence. I can see many, many jurisdictions all overRead More doing the same. But, yes, why use the police for this while cars and homes are being broken into all the time? Rick, lust for someone to be executed is itself evil. Using caps makes it sound like you are yelling. Perhaps you are unwittingly an agent of the devil yourself. It is not for you to decide who shall live and die. Peace, this Easter Sunday. p.s. I will not respond if you come back with more. Enough said.

And when / if you do get pulled over, don't bother asking the cop for a warning , unless you haveRead More large breasts, or are politically connected you're getting a ticket. Your main concern is not the fine its the points on the DL . . You should ask the cop if they will reduce the ticket a little , most times they will drop it enough to no get any points (less than 15 over in Georgia is no points) If the cop won't reduce it. Then you should wait a couple weeks and call the prosecutors office. They will often reduce it or agree to not report the violation to the state in exchange for you paying the fine without going to court and clogging up their court system But that's always your last resort . If everyone that got a ticket went to court the court system would collapse . Too bad most people don't. Every hour the cop is in court is an hour he is not out harassing more drivers for minor violations . Because if you plead guilty and find out later that the scumbag city didn't actually have a permit from the state to operate radar in that particular street ( as Forest Park, Jonesboro and several other money hungry towns recently got caught doing) then you can't sue em later . If you challenge it in court and lose , and find out later the city is in violation of some requirement then you can sue em .

Oh and wHen the revenue collection officer asks to search your. Vehicle , " I don't consent toRead More searches " is what you need to practice saying . If you have something obviously illegal in plain sight they can seach. Otherwise you have to give Them permission. Which they need or they wouldn't be ASKING. They'd be telling you they're gonna search . When you refuse them permission they will huff and puff and threaten to call in the drug dog. Blah blah.blah Bring it on steroid head . Then you say "am I under arrest or am I free to go?".
Pam Hamburg April 24, 2014 at 09:28 am
userbronco, you are 110% right. They have NO right to search your vehicle. Of course, they areRead More allowed to peer through the glass to see what they can see, but without a suspicion or proof, they have no right searching your glove compartment, trunk, etc. Yes, say 'am I being detained or am I free to go'? Also, don't roll your window down all the way...you don't have to. About 4 or 5 inches suffices. Stand firm with that one. Be polite, but be firm. Be quiet except when asked a question, then use good judgment in answering. Keep saying 'am I being detained or am I free to go'? Holding court on the side of the road is not a good idea. If they persist in asking you if they can search your vehicle, politely tell them they will have to get a warrant. At all times, be courteous, but FIRM. Know your rights!

Vincent Careatti, I see your posts and they are either about I-66 or Route 7. it seems you get offRead More the I-66 to get onto local roads when I-66 backs up. Does that make you want to use cut through and speed? Sounds like it to me. I want the police to keep an eye on you. Because of your cut through driving, you make it very unsafe for my neighbors children, the elderly and myself. Stay on your I-66 commuter traffic route and stay the heck out of places you don't belong. You are making things worst being there. You are the traffic many people don't want driving in their neighborhoods. You don't live there, don't visit or do business there, so you just don't belong there.
Lisa April 6, 2014 at 11:46 am
Part of the problem is the length of the traffic cycles. Miss the light and one can end up waiting 5Read More minutes to get going again, and in some cases have to go through multiple cycles to get through the intersection. In our society of impatience, people start doing other things like texting and reading email, then continue to finish up what they are doing once the traffic moves again. I see that every morning that I drive to work.
Alvin Clinton Hicks, Jr. April 6, 2014 at 09:27 pm
All this is simply proof that the regions police departments are not doing their jobs. All policeRead More officers are responsible to traffic duty when on duty. Most have an attitude to justify not doing this responsibly. Yet the death toll and injury toll is rising in every region across the nation. The last year's death toll was over 43,000. With serious injury's in the hundreds of thousands! And Fairfax is no exception. Most police officers think that they are supposed to get paid overtime on what is called 'auxilary' traffic duty assignments on $overtime$. And the dispatch offices are in on it as well. They get thousands of calls daily with traffic complaints directly involving improper Motor Vehicle Operator driving in any given area thru out Fairfax and most go ignored. Yet someone will call in a redundant call by comparison and the patrolling officers on duty will respond to it instead of the thousands involving even reckless driving reports! Bottom line? It is such gross negligence it is simply criminal in and upon itself! Emails. Written letters. Phone call reports about same being received about Motor Vehicle Operator small and big infractions and what is being done about it? A patrol officer will be sent out to investigate a kitty cat being stuck in a tree instead by dispatch, backed up by the on duty officer of the shift? And what is the departments sworn duty and oat to office and position? "To Serve and Protect". And what major subject issue is killing and injuring people more than any other? The Motor Vehicle Operator.

Wow, there are just three people on this thread smashing each other to death - typical lol. ThenRead More there was the one Black and or racist comment as expected. I was actually waiting for the the Dems And Repubs to get into it as well. Ahh it's still early I guess. BTW, he was charged. I am very sad to inform you wonderful citizens that nothing is getting "swept" anywhere. It's in the courts hands now. Wait for the result, read , comment, wash and do it all over again. Zzzz Zzzzz

27 years old? That's a grown adult! Probably older than a portion of the officers on the force! IRead More could understand maybe if he was 17 years old, it would be a childish fantasy but 27 years old? Obviously personal responsibility is out the window. The Virginia Code is a big book so throw the whole book at him! He should have known better!

"after his wife accidentally backed over him in her car". This is not correct. HisRead More wife did not back over him. The car that his wife was driving ran over him as she was driving her car.

Alcohol nor speed was a factor, how about prescription drugs? Did this car have a back up camera?Read More Yes, no?
