Independent candidate Chris DeCarlo doesn't have a huge campaign war chest, but he says the power of rap, a singular message and the Internet are driving his campaign for election to Virginia's 11th District congressional seat. His Youtube video "How Virginia's 17-Year-Olds Can Stick it to the Man and Fight Political Corruption" has been seen by 25,837 viewers, and a video released five days ago has garnered more than 5,000 views. Democratic Congressman made the statement Tuesday to residents of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield.
Northern Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) said Tuesday that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's recently released comments in a controversial videotape make him "unfit for office." Connolly spoke to about 75 residents of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield during a campaign appearance. Romney's comments, secretly taped without his knowledge, featured a controversial statement in which he said that 47 percent of the electorate do not pay income taxes and are dependent on the government and consequently support President Obama's candidacy. Gerry Connolly (D-11th) will hold his 15th telephone town hall for residents of Virginia’s 11th congressional district Tuesday. Constituents will be called shortly before the meeting begins at 8 p.m. Connolly will give a brief rundown of the top issues in Congress and issues he is working on and will then open it up to constituent questions, his office noted. In less than a month, Virginia voters will head to the polls for the Democratic and Republican primaries on Tuesday, June 12. Across Northern Virginia, voters will decide among candidates for the U.S. Senate as well as for the 8th and 11th Congressional districts. If your polling place is holding both a Republican primary and a Democratic primary, you can only vote in one primary. If you aren't registered to vote, you have until Monday, May 21 at 5 p.m. to register. Little known fact: If you are 17 years old now but you are turning 18 by the Nov. 6 general election, you can vote in the June 12 primary. Republican Kenneth Vaughn, 44, hopes to challenge Rep. Gerald Connolly for 11th congressional District seat.
Republican Kenneth Vaughn, 44, a traffic engineer who lives in Herndon with his wife and twin sons and originally hails from Texas, is hoping to represent Virginia's 11th congressional District, the seat currently held by Democratic Congressman Gerald Connolly. Vaughn will compete in the Republican primary election June 12 against Chris Perkins and Steven Yeh, the only others currently in the GOP primary race for the 11th congressional District. Vaughn has raised about $120,000, contributing most of it himself, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. There is no record of Yeh yet raising funds. Perkins has raised more than $150,000.
