The West Potomac Wolverines lose their first game of the 2012 season to the Lake Braddock Bruins, 37-23.
West Potomac's football team went head-to-head with Lake Braddock Friday night in a home game and lost, 37-23. Although the Wolverines started the first half strong, the Bruins' defense gave them trouble after halftime. Next week, Lake Braddock will take on T.C. Williams High in a home game, and West Potomac will go head-to-head in an away game against Annandale High. Read the full story here.

Police found a suspicious package on the school grounds which lead to an hours-long investigation that delayed school and angered parents.
Update 4:26 p.m.— Fairfax County police today charged former Annandale High School student 19-year-old Marco Antonio Verduo Toledo of the 5400 block of Tilalary Court in Burke with felony threats to bomb and criminal trespass following their investigation of Friday morning's bomb threat at Annandale High School. According to the police, the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) unit found a suspicious backpack just outside the school. Upon examination, EOD officers determined the backpack was not a threat. Repeated calls by Annandale Patch to Fairfax County Public Schools regarding today's events at Annandale High School have not been returned. Lake Braddock Secondary School's varsity wrestlers won the "Rumble in the Pit" tournament Jan. 14. Head Coach Scott Matheny said it was the first tournament win for the team during his tenure. The Bruins won their pool by winning dual match-ups against Loudoun Valley, Battlefield, Centreville and Woodbridge Senior. They then went on to beat Annandale High School in their home gym for a first place finish of 44 - 29. Undefeated Bruin wrestlers in the tournament were Ryan Haskett (106 lbs.), Sean Haskett (138 lbs.), Rory Renzi (145 lbs.) and Jake Sage (152 lbs.). Junior Sophie Chase placed second overall with a time of 17:06 at cross country championships.
Lake Braddock junior Sophie Chase finished second overall at the 33rd Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships South Regional in Charlotte, N.C., earning herself a place in the National Finals in San Diego, Calif., on December 10. Chase's time of 17:06 is the third fastest in Virginia history for 5000 meters. This will be Chase's second consecutive trip to nationals, and the eleventh appearance in the finals by a Lake Braddock girl. Lake Braddock leads with the number of girls to have competed at nationals.
