With four recent assaults in the Burke area, Fairfax County Police encourage residents to be smart and take precautions when using trails, parks, paths and remote roadways. On March 14, 2012, a man used a knife to threaten and sexually assault a 24-year-old woman along Commonwealth Boulevard near Richardson Drive in the Kings Park West subdivision. Fairfax County Police described the man as white, about 5-feet 7-inches tall, wearing a sweatshirt. Police reported a 16-year-old girl was grabbed in the woods where Pickett Road ends (near Frost Middle School) while walking home from W.T. Woodson High School on March 19. Officials provide information, receive community input after two sexual assaults in the Braddock District.
In response to two recent sexual assaults in the Braddock District, Supervisor John Cook held a community awareness meeting at Robinson Secondary School Monday. Representatives from the Fairfax County Police Department and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) joined more than 100 concerned residents in a review of the incidents and discussion of safety procedures in place and proposed. A 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the woods off Commonwealth Boulevard in Kings Park West on March 14. Less than a week later, on March 19, a 16-year-old W.T. Maltreatment of Animal, 5000 block of Harford Lane, 3/23/12, 3 p.m. Animal Control Officers responded for a Springer Spaniel/Labrador mix dog and her puppies not being fed or watered and living in filth. The owner, Gerard K. Thompson, 21, of Burke was charged with being an unfit owner, unsanitary conditions, no county animal license, and no proof of rabies vaccination. All the dogs were checked by a veterinarian prior to going to the animal shelter.
