"Who's Your Daddy, Baby" is a fictionalized account of the author's search for her father.
A Fairfax Station woman has written “Who’s Your Daddy, Baby,” a fictionalized account of her search for her biological father. “I really wrote it to try and help other people going through a similar situation,” said Lisa Pell, who recently discussed the book at Kings Park Library. “It’s a fun novel, but it’s not fluff. It’s medical history and family history." Pell started writing as a journalist for the student newspaper at George Mason University 35 years ago. She has also worked at regional publications, television stations and radio stations. She didn’t start writing for fun, however, until the early 2000s. She began writing a trilogy, but that was soon set aside when another idea for a novel came up. She began undergoing in-vitro …

Parenting experts and radio show hosts bring tips and advice to the the festival
Authors Sandra Burt and Linda Perlis spoke at Burke Centre Library on Thursday afternoon about a topic many in the area have a personal stake in -- parenting. In particular, the two authors, who also host a weekly syndicated radio show titled Parents' Perspective, discussed two of their books as a part of the 2010 Fall for the Book Festival. The talk, which attracted a number of parents and grandparents was broken into two portions. The first portion of their discussion focused on Burt and Perlis' city guide, Washington DC with Kids, which is now in its 5th edition. Author presents his struggle with learning about a dark chapter in his family's history
"What do you do when you find out you're related to the largest slave trading industry in history?," posed author Thomas DeWolf at the beginning of his presentation on Wednesday night at Pohick Regional Library in Burke. His talk, a part of the 2010 Fall for the Book Festival, focused on his book, Inheriting the Trade, which documents his pursuits of tracing his family's history with the slave trade in the United States. DeWolf began the evening reading from the introduction to his book. The dynamic speaker explained to the audience that his interest in his family's genealogy began when he found he was distantly related to both actress Drew Barrymore and Samuel Colt, inventor of the revolver. His adventure in finding out about his family…

Author Robert Poole presented a history of Arlington National Cemetery at Kings Park Library on Wednesday.
In the meeting room of Kings Park Library on Burke Lake Road, people filed in to hear a talk from Robert Poole, author and editor of On Hallowed Ground: The Story of Arlington National Cemetery. The presentation, a part of the 2010 Fall for the Book Festival, brought in a large crowd eager to hear the author's presentation on the history and saga behind the historic landmark. Poole, a veteran writer and editor for National Geographic, began his presentation by taking a quick audience poll of who has been to Arlington and who has attended funeral services at the cemetery. Of the approximately 70 people in attendance, a majority of them raised their hands. This brief poll emphasized the impact the historical landmark has on this country. "I…
