Beaver Chases Children at Hidden Pond Nature Center

Incident takes place week after rabid beaver attacked swimmer in Lake Barcroft.

One week after an 83-year-old woman was attacked by a beaver in Lake Barcroft in Falls Church comes a report that a beaver was chasing children Saturday at the Hidden Pond Nature Center in West Springfield. County Animal Control officers responded to the report that the animal was chasing the children Saturday at about 11:30 a.m., according to a news release from Fairfax County Police. The children who were chased had just finished competing in a fishing contest when they noticed a beaver in the water swimming toward the dock they were standing on, according to the release. Safety Tips: When Beavers (or Other Animals) Attack

In light of the recent rabid beaver attack at Lake Barcroft, Fairfax County released this video.

Earlier this month, a rabid beaver attacked an 83-year-old woman at Lake Barcroft (see the full story here).  The attack occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday, and the woman was able to swim to shore and receive medical assistance. The Barcroft Association has temporarily closed Lake Barcroft to residents in light of the attack. Friday, Fairfax County officials released this video offering safety tips to residents who may encounter rabid or aggressive animals in the area.  The video is viewable in the media box to the right.

Incredibly valuable tips. I never would have figured this out without government assistance. These tips are also useful in the event of invading Mongol hordes. This is almost as useful as the assistance provided by FFX Co. following the June storm and multi day power outage.   more ›
