The most recently available restaurant inspection reports from Sept. 26 to Oct. 4 in the Burke and Fairfax Station areas.

Between Sept. 26 and Oct.4, restaurants in the Burke and Fairfax Station areas were inspected. For prior restaurant inspection reports, click here. In Virginia, restaurant inspection reports aren't quite as simple as getting a letter grade or an easy to see number rating to post in the front window. That said, we all want to know how our favorite restaurants stack up on cleanliness and sanitation. Inspectors grade restaurants based on critical and non-critical violations. A "critical violation" is one that "poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served." Non-critical violations are generally related to cleaning or maintenance. "Ideally, an operation would have no critical violations, or none which are not …

Burke Restaurant Inspection Reports

How did your favorite local restaurant do? Find out in the latest restaurant inspection reports.

Northern Virginia Native Returns to Face the Nationals

Fairfax native Michael Schwimer is now a member of the Philadelphia Phillies, in town playing against the Nats this weekend.

It is just about eight miles from St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in Alexandria to Nationals Park in southeast Washington. But it took Major League pitcher Michael Schwimer about seven years to make the trip as a player. "It was crazy—it was a dream come true," Schwimer said, describing his Major League debut last year at Nationals Park.  And now he is back for more as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies, who began a three-game series Friday night at Nationals Park. Lake Braddock Boy Extends Creative Prom Invitation

A Lake Braddock student sets signs in the median asking a girl to prom.

We hope she says yes. Lake Braddock student Shelley received a surprise on her drive to school Thursday morning.  In the median along Burke Lake Road, within sight of the school, were four poster-board signs. The first spelled out her name. The second invited her to prom. The third pictured the askers face with his expression should she say yes. The fourth showed his face should she decline his invitation. A woman driving by reported the posters to Burke Patch. "Very cute idea.  They made me smile on my way to the store," she said. Lake Braddock's prom is on June 8, so this young man is thinking ahead.  We hope she says yes, and that they have a great evening.  If we hear the outcome, we'll let you know!
