It's Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day, and the restaurant is giving away free meals at their many area locations, including the Springfield restaurant at 6681a Backlick Road and the food court location at George Mason University. Customers who come to the restaurant dressed “head-to-hoof" in a cow costume will receive a free meal. Any guests who wear "at least a few spots" will be eligible for a free entree. The promotion will be ongoing throughout the day, and customers can claim their free meal or entree during breakfast, lunch or dinner. Around 130 people arrived on Wednesday morning, hoping for a year's worth of meals
Libby Knupp was attending her 87th Chick-fil-A Wednesday afternoon in Springfield. She had already been camped out for 10 hours, and she wasn't going anywhere. "Once we'd get into a Chick-fil-A [opening], the only way we'd leave is on a stretcher." Knupp, 71, and her husband Jake, 73, live in St. Petersburg, Fla., when they aren't traveling the country attending Chick-fil-A openings. Hundreds line up ahead of new restaurant's opening.
A little more than a hundred Chick-fil-A fans were lined up at the restaurant's new Springfield location this morning, hoping for a chance to win a year's worth of food from the chain. The Chick-fil-A, located at 6881-A Backlick Road, will open tomorrow at 6 a.m. The first 100 customers will win a meal a week at Chick-fil-A for 52 weeks, as long as they stay in line from 6 a.m. today until the restaurant opens. Because more than 100 people were in line in the morning, the first 100 spots were raffled off, according to Chick-fil-A spokesperson Tiffany Simmons. Chick-fil-A will give away $26,000 in food.
Most people who go to the new Backlick Road Chick-fil-A when it opens Thursday will come away with just a sandwich or two and some waffle fries, but 100 visitors will receive a lot more — a coupon for a Chick-fil-A meal once a week for a year. The Springfield branch of the chicken chain, located at 6681-A Backlick Road in Backlick Center, is participating in Chick-fil-A's "First 100" promotion for its opening day. Chick-fil-A fans camp are allowed to camp out for 24 hours to receive weekly meal vouchers. The First 100 promotion has drawn crowds to Chick-fil-A locations across the country.
