Springfield Man Dies in Wednesday Morning Crash on I-395

Ernest Campbell, 81, of Springfield, was killed Wednesday morning after an alleged reckless driver struck his truck.

A Springfield man has died after an early-morning crash on I-395 caused by an alleged reckless driver, according to Virginia State Police. Ernest Campbell, 81, of Springfield died in the crash, which happened when a driver—now charged with reckless driving—struck Campbell's truck. The crash happened on northbound I-395, just south of Exit 3 for Route 236 (Little River Turnpike to the west and Duke Street to the east). Virginia State Police Trooper G.J. Goldstein was called to the scene of the two-vehicle crash at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday.  A 2006 Subaru Legacy was heading northbound on I-395 when it ran off the left side of the highway and struck the guardrail, police said in the release.
