DeCarlo plans to run for political office every year.
Independent candidate Chris DeCarlo doesn't have a huge campaign war chest, but he says the power of rap, a singular message and the Internet are driving his campaign for election to Virginia's 11th District congressional seat. His Youtube video "How Virginia's 17-Year-Olds Can Stick it to the Man and Fight Political Corruption" has been seen by 25,837 viewers, and a video released five days ago has garnered more than 5,000 views. But will that translate to votes? DeCarlo calls this campaign of running without donations an experiment — just like his previous four campaigns — and has committed himself to running for political office every year. "I think part of the popularity of my videos comes from watching a 53-year-old white guy rapping…

Republican 11th District candidate Chris Perkins spoke to residents Tuesday about tax reform and other issues.
Federal budget sequestration will cripple Northern Virginia's economy, and Chris Perkins, the Republican 11th District Congressional candidate, wants to stop it. Perkins, who spoke to about 50 members of the Greenspring Retirement Community Republican Club on Tuesday, said that his Democratic opponent Rep. Gerry Connolly is not considering the interests of his constituents regarding the impending cuts to federal defense contracts. "The 11th Congressional District will be the second hardest hit district in the country because of this," said Perkins. "I understand that a Congressman may find himself in a situation when the greater good for America might be in conflict with the greater good of his constituents, but in this case, it's going …

The forum included candidates (or their representatives) from the 8th, 10th and 11th congressional districts.
Health care, immigration and the economy were hot-button issues at the Asian American Northern Virginia Candidate forum on Friday night that featured political candidates running in Virginia’s congressional and Senate races. The event was hosted by several Virginia Asian-American organizations and focused specifically on issues that affect the Asian-American community. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th), who has received some criticism for not participating in enough debates this election season, was present, but challenger Col. Chris Perkins was absent so that he and his family could prepare for his daughter's wedding. For the 8th district, incumbent Jim Moran (D-8th) sent a representative, Austin Durr, in his place to face off against …

Democratic Congressman made the statement Tuesday to residents of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield.
Northern Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) said Tuesday that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's recently released comments in a controversial videotape make him "unfit for office." Connolly spoke to about 75 residents of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield during a campaign appearance. Romney's comments, secretly taped without his knowledge, featured a controversial statement in which he said that 47 percent of the electorate do not pay income taxes and are dependent on the government and consequently support President Obama's candidacy. Connolly characterized the statement as "dangerous." "That's very dangerous thinking, and I think that alone suggests Mitt is not fit for that office," said Connolly…

Editor's Note: The following was submitted as a Letter to the Editor from Terry Wear, chairman of the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee. It is unedited. Dear Editor, There have been numerous opportunities for Gerry Connolly to stop or slow the impending sequestration cuts that will result in tens of thousands of layoffs in Northern Virginia and the 11th District. After voting for both versions of the Budget Control Act of 2011, which authorized this sequestration process; Connolly voted against several measures that would lessen the impact of the cuts, including an amendment authored by fellow Virginia Congressman Scott Rigell. These sequestration cuts disproportionately burden Northern Virginia and the defense industry …
