John Cook Wins Second Term as Braddock Supervisor in Tight Race

Cook, who faced strong competition from challenger Janet Oleszek, narrowly won on Tuesday evening

Updated 3 p.m. Wednesday Republican incumbent John Cook was re-elected to his second term as Braddock District Supervisor on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday evening in what was largely considered one of the most contended races in the county. "There are independent voices in the Braddock District, and our voices are going to be heard on the Board of Supervisors,” said Cook in his victory speech at the Fairfax County Republication Committee party at the Fairview Marriott in Falls Church. Braddock Race County's Fiercest

Braddock District said to represent Fairfax County as a whole.

"Fairfax County’s fiercest election battle this year is unfolding in the Braddock District, where the neighborhood concerns and politics are strikingly representative of the county as a whole," reported the Washington Post in Fairfax County eyes Braddock race as bellwether for all. Incumbent Braddock District Supervisor John Cook won the seat in a 2009 special election.  It's the first time in 30 years a Republican has held the office. Janet Oleszek, a former Fairfax County School Board member, is the Democrat's hope to take it back. Schools and colleges, transportation woes and complaints of unfair treatment out of Richmond took center stage Wednesday evening at a forum for state lawmakers and their political challengers at the Robinson Legislative Forum. Meet Braddock District Candidate Carey Campbell

Carey Campbell is the independent candidate for the Braddock District Board of Supervisors

When Braddock District Board of Supervisors candidate Carey Campbell joined the Air Force, he was pulled aside by a tech sergeant who noticed the tenor of his radio ready voice and encouraged Campbell to join the American Forces Network. “It was a great job for a young person,” Campbell, 55, said. “I interviewed many of the leading politicians of the day.” Campbell had passed a voice audition many months earlier, and in civilian life had already been a teenage Disc Jockey and news anchor for about 3 to 4 years. He joined the Armed Forces Network and was a broadcast journalist for over 10 years in the 1970s in the network that serves those in the military. He was stationed in Germany, where he picked up on some French, Spanish, and German …
