Perkins Wins GOP Primary in 11th District Race

Retired Army colonel beats Herndon traffic engineer Ken Vaughn with 60-plus percent of the vote. Perkins will face Gerald Connolly in general election for 11th congressional district.

UPDATE: Retired Army Col. Chris Perkins of Lorton has won the GOP primary in the 11th congressional district with about 60 percent of the vote. He will now do battle with incumbent Democrat Congressman Gerald Connolly in November. "I know my words sound almost contrived, but I'm feeling so humble right now," Perkins said as he greeted a house full of well-wishers Tuesday night. "Because all of these people put their faith in me." He thanked his wife Petra for her contributions to the campaign. Gov. Northern Virginians head to the polls on Tuesday, June 12, to vote in Republican primaries for the U.S. Senate race in Virginia and the 11th congressional district; and the Democratic primary for the 8th congressional district. Former Congressman Tom Davis Endorses Chris Perkins for 11th District Race

Former member of Congress held seat from 1995-2008 now held by Democrat Gerald Connolly

Former GOP Congressman Tom Davis, who once represented Virginia's 11th Congressional District, has endorsed Chris Perkins for his old seat.  Perkins is facing fellow Republican Ken Vaughn in a Republican primary election June 12. The winner will challenge incumbent Congressman Gerald Connolly (D-11th) and independent Mark Gibson in a race for the 11th Congressional District seat. The new 11th District stretches from Dale City to Reston, including all or part of Woodbridge, Lorton, Burke, Springfield, Fairfax, Vienna, Centreville and Annandale. When Davis was in office, the 11th District did not include areas south of Dale City or north of Vienna, but included parts of Mount Vernon to the east and Clifton, Bristow and Haymarket to the west…

Concern for Economy Sparks Herndon Engineer's Run for Congress

Republican Kenneth Vaughn, 44, hopes to challenge Rep. Gerald Connolly for 11th congressional District seat.

Republican Kenneth Vaughn, 44, a traffic engineer who lives in Herndon with his wife and twin sons and originally hails from Texas, is hoping to represent Virginia's 11th congressional District, the seat currently held by Democratic Congressman Gerald Connolly. Vaughn will compete in the Republican primary election June 12 against Chris Perkins and Steven Yeh, the only others currently in the GOP primary race for the 11th congressional District. Vaughn has raised about $120,000, contributing most of it himself, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. There is no record of Yeh yet raising funds. Perkins has raised more than $150,000.
