Burke residents not heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras on Feb. 12 can still celebrate "Fat Tuesday" a little closer to home by enjoying a little king cake. Some Burke area bakeries are selling king cakes in celebration of the holiday. The colorful cakes, traditionally made out of sweetened yeast bread and sprinkled with colored sugar, are baked as part of a Mardi Gras tradition in New Orleans.
