Paul Hewitt Writing New Script for GMU's Patriots

Profiling George Mason University's new head coach Paul Hewitt

Let’s be clear, Paul Hewitt would have been just fine taking a year or two off from coaching college basketball after his 11-year run at Georgia Tech came to an end last spring.   But it’s not often that a position opens up with a program that’s coming off a 27-win season and would be returning a team favored by many to win its conference championship the following season. Senior guard served a ten game suspension for credit card fraud.

For Andre Cornelius, Christmas is arriving four days early. The George Mason senior guard, who missed the Patriots’ first 10 games while serving a suspension following an arrest for credit card fraud, is eligible to play for the first time during the 2011-12 campaign on Wednesday against Duquesne at the Patriot Center.   “I’ve just been waiting for this process to be over so I can get back out on the court,” said Cornelius, who started all 34 games for Mason last year, finishing third on the team averaging 9.5 points per game. “I’ve been working hard in practice, trying to push the guys and everything. I just can’t wait until Wednesday." Cornelius was arrested in September and charged with credit card larceny and credit card fraud of less …
