Robinson Secondary School ends their season with a tough loss to Madison High School.
The Robinson Secondary School boys lacrosse team fell to Madison High School 10-9 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Northern Region tournament. Fairfax County Public Schools is still interviewing candidates to replace retired Robinson Principal Dan Meier.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is still searching for the right candidate to serve as the next principal of Robinson Secondary School. FCPS spokesman John Torre confirmed to Patch that candidates are still being interviewed in an ongoing search to replace Dan Meier, who retired as principal of Robinson in April. "We hope to be able to announce the new principal of Robinson Secondary School in mid-to-late June," Torre said in an email to Patch. Students from Lake Braddock Secondary School, Robinson Secondary School and West Springfield High School all received nominations in annual theater awards.
More than 10 students from Lake Braddock Secondary School, Robinson Secondary School and West Springfield High School have received nominations for the 2013 National Capital Area Cappie Awards. The Critics and Awards Program, or Cappies, is an international program that gives high school theater students and aspiring playwrights and journalism student the opportunity to critique theater performances and have the reviews published in local newspaper. The following Burke area students have been nominated for awards in the categories: The awards ceremony for the 2013 National Capital Area Cappie Awards will be at 7 p.m. June 9 at the Kennedy Center.

Robinson Secondary School will face Madison High School in the regional semifinals Wednesday.
The Robinson Secondary School boys lacrosse team topped McLean 12-8 Thursday night in the second round of the Virginia AAA Northern Region tournament. See Full Northern Region Boys Lacrosse Playoff Schedule and Results The Rams will face Madison High School in Vienna Wednesday night in the semifinals. With the win, the Rams overall record for the season now stands at 13-4. This is the second win of the week for the Rams, who beat Lake Braddock 8-1 on Tuesday.
The four students join a total of eight Fairfax County Public Schools winners.
Four students from Burke area schools have won certificates from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for superior writing. Robinson Secondary School's Ben Familiant and Jei-Si Ang, Annie Fuller and Emma Spillman from West Springfield High School were one of eight FCPS students to receive certificates, according to a news release from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). The NCTE 2013 Achievement Awards is an annual competiton that requires nominated students to submit two pieces of writing for judging. The theme for this year's submissions was “Personal Mount Rushmore.” A total of 753 high school juniors were nominated for the awards this year, the release further states. The Robinson boys lacrosse team will face McLean in the second round of the Northern Region tournament.
The Lake Braddock Secondary School boys lacrosse team fell 8-1 to Robinson Secondary School Tuesday night, knocking the Bruins out of the Virginia AAA Northern Region tournament. With their win, the Robinson boys advance to round two and face McLean on Thursday. The LBSS girls lacrosse team met a similar fate, but put up a fight against Centreville before losing 13-12 in overtime. The Robinson girls lacrosse team did not fare as well as the boys, falling 16-6 to W.T. Woodson. The case also involved one other student, who will go to court later this month in connection with felony charges for bringing a weapon onto school property in December.
In all, three Robinson Secondary School students were charged in connection with a December incident where a weapon was found on school property. Two of the students involved recently pleaded guilty to the charges, an officer told residents this week at a meeting of the West Springfield District Police Station Citizen Advisory Committee. Newsweek has ranked Robinson Secondary School as the No. 342 high school out of the top 2,000 high schools in the country for turning out college-ready graduates. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology ranked the highest of all Virginia schools, coming in at the No. 8 best high school in the country. Newsweek bumped TJ up from 2012, when it was ranked No. 10. The average SAT score for "TJ," as listed by Newsweek, was 2153, the highest of the top 10 schools ranked. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. The Tony Award winning musical is the school's selection for its spring musical production.
This week, the Tony Award winning musical “Hairspray” comes to Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax. The Robinson Drama students production of the popular musical kicks off on Thursday, May 2 with a 7:30 p.m. performance in the Russell Theatre. Additionally, performances will be on May 3-4 and May 10-11. "Hairspray" is set in 1960s Baltimore and follows teenager Tracy Turnblad as she pursues her dream of dancing on The Corny Collins Show. The original John Waters film debuted in 1988. It was turned into a Broadway musical in 2002 and the latest film adaptation came out in theaters in 2007. According to the Fairfax Connection, almost 100 students are part of the cast and crew and the production includes a 20-piece orchestra. The production …

A portion of the proceeds from purchases made at Burke Nursery and Garden Center with the team's flyer will benefit Robinson Crew.
If you're looking to spruce up your lawn or garden this spring, you're in luck: the Burke Nursery & Garden Centre has partnered with the Robinson Secondary School Crew team for the team's annual Plant Sale fundraiser on Friday. The nursery is located at 9401 Burke Road in Burke. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., a portion (25 percent) of all purchases made with the special flyer (see at right) will benefit the crew team.
